Best Walking Shoes for Everyday and Travel 2022

Comfortable shoes that do not rush fashion

Content of the article

I feel bad for the walking shoe. A running shoe can be a walking shoe, but a walking shoe cannot be a running shoe. In favor of the walking shoe, I argue that it has its distinguished features and no running shoe can replace it.

Every time I travel or walk around Manhattan for a weekend, I walk a lot. And not just because I’m intimidated by foreign transit systems, but because I’m bad with them and won’t end up at my destination.

During my last forays into New York and trips abroad, I tested a few walking shoes. I distinguish a walking and running shoe by looks (and function). A running shoe was made for running, and it looks like that. If you’re not running and you’re wearing a running shoe, you look like a tourist. My abominable transportation skills should let others know I’m a tourist, not my shoes.

Here are five shoes that are comfortable, easy to put on and take off at airports, and most importantly, don’t look terrible. Some of them are more elegant than others.

1. Sorel Kinetic Impact Lace Sneaker ($150)

Why I love them: They are super unique and so I’m not just another foot in Converse (even though I love and live in Converse). They fit well on my feet, but I can easily put them on and take them off with the ribbon pull tabs. This is useful for airport scans and general laziness. Plus they make me an inch taller.

Details to note: The sides of the shoes are lower than most runners, so the socks may appear higher than expected. I wear the shoes with those invisible socks and everything is splendid.

Or buy: Sorel (Women) | Sorel (Men – different appearance)

2. Tree Runners by Allbirds ($140)

Why I love them: These are the most comfortable shoes; they’re made from eco-friendly materials like eucalyptus fiber, sugar cane and recycled plastic bottles, and they can be thrown in the washing machine when dirty (remember to remove the soleplate interior). Try them and tell me I’m wrong.

Details to note: I have the whites and they are no longer white even after washing them for several times. No regrets, but I can consider taking a black pair the next time.

3. Therap Sneakers by ECCO ($200)

Why I love them: ECCO makes things comfortable. These shoes are a bit more expensive, but they are made of leather and built to last. They have elastic lacing so they are easy to put on and take off. They are beautiful and light.

Details to note: Since they’re made of leather, you can’t just throw them in the wash. ECCO recommends some affordable cleaning products (scroll down the page).

4. Skechers GOwalk 6 (from $90)

Why I love them: These are pillows. Support pillows. but. They’re stretchy so it’s easy to get into them, but they’re a supportive stretch so I can go the distance. They are also compatible with the washing machine, do not forget to remove the insole. I like to wear them with socks but they are super comfortable without.

Details to note: They run a little wide.

Or buy: Skechers, DWS (Women) | Skechers, Amazon (Men’s)

5. Adelina Sneaker by PUMA ($67.99)

Why I love them: I haven’t tried them on, but the other shoes are all just about over $100 and it’s nice to have a range of price options. The shoes have great reviews, with most saying they are comfortable and true to size. Laura on Amazon said: “Lightweight shoe but full of comfort. I take a 9 1/2 shoe and ordered a 10 but should have stuck with my typical size 9 1/2. I will add an insole and you should be fine but I suggest ordering your usual size. Nice shoe too.

Details to note: You might want to wear a no-show sock with these slip-ons.

Or buy: Amazon (Women) | There are no versions for men, but these Feethit sneakers are also a well-priced option for $59.99
