As fashion seasons come and go, Craig Green and adidas Originals continually prove themselves to be a creative force to be reckoned with. I mean, you don’t see the classic Stan Smiths turning into diver’s dream shoes every day.
Craig Green’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection paraded at Paris Fashion Week, unveiling his latest collection of conceptually practical clothing and radical footwear in collaboration with adidas.
Displaying his continued appreciation of Stan Smith and BOOST, Craig Green merges the best of both worlds, fusing the two classic adidas silhouettes for the STAN SMITH BOOST.
Craig Green also gives each model a chance to shine individually, but through the brand’s experimental lens, of course.
While last year’s Stan Smiths were reef-approved, the SS23 Stan Smith sneakers are split by none other than Craig Green.
Appropriately named SPLIT STAN SMITH, the shoe features a sliced design (literally), where a domed rubber band acts as the connecting element that holds the halves together.
Admittedly, without the connecting detail, it would be a bit difficult to walk properly when your Craig Green x adidas cut shoes are going in two different directions.
The adidas Originals by Craig Green SS23 collection also saw the partnership return to the sandal era.
But unlike its anonymous ankle-style shoes, the collaboration’s SS23 sandals actually have an official namesake: the RETROPY SANDAL.
Thanks to the BOOST midsole, the RETROPY SANDAL in neoprene offers more support than its leather counterpart without a sole. Meanwhile, the cutouts again provide a hollowed-out upper for the final sandal.
So, remember Craig Green’s FW22 RETROPY BOOST? Yup, well, the runner-sculpted shoe returns in the SS23 collection, with the timeless adidas BOOST sneaker wrapped in a distinctive molded detail.
Despite the curious buzz surrounding the model, the included BOOST concept was only a prototype in February. While it’s unclear if the shoe is still in the mock-up stage, I suspect the British designer has finally perfected it for SS23.
Naturally, Craig Green’s SS23 apparel and accessories match the design energy of adidas footwear, expanding on the brand’s abstract functionality through ladder-equipped ensembles, bondage ties, multi-pocket outerwear, l usual endless supply of straps and even human kite cups.
Although Craig Green has unveiled his SS23 collection, including new adidas shoes, I’m afraid you’ll have to wait until the next warmer season to flex your CG parachute suit and STAN SMITH SPLIT fit.
