Junior dos Santos says he lost several supporters, including Nike because of UFC deal with Reebok

Junior dos Santos recently used his Twitter account to reply to a series of tweets regarding his loss of multiple mentions.

The legendary Brazilian responded by telling “a true story” to Dr Ana Claudia Guedes’ post below:

“Note the amazing @nike custom boxing shoes he FINALLY got to wear in a ring. True story: when @ufc signed his @reebok deal (the company that didn’t take the time to learn about MMA , who made the name of the all-time champions / greats) … @junior_cigano has lost a LOT of supporters – including Nike. Many years of work have been taken away and a lot of athlete funds have been taken away. anyway @nike has always been amazing to work with – an “athlete first always” company. Glad Junior got to represent him. ”

UFC 260 marked the end of an era. It was the last event held under the Reebok uniform deal. The deal between Reebok and the UFC was signed in late 2014 and began in the second quarter of 2015.

The six-year deal was originally valued at $ 70 million. The deal with Reebok marked the end of UFC fighters bringing their own sponsorships to the Octagon.

The UFC announced this morning that Venum will be the UFC’s new exclusive global equipment and apparel partner from 2021. The Reebok uniforms deal will end in March 2021 and Venum will take over in April. Reebok will remain the shoe sponsor until the end of 2021.

However, according to the Reebok deal, UFC fighters received compliance fees based on their tenure system. For many, these payments were a drastic reduction of what they had done with their own sponsors.

The first MMA promotion has now signed with Venum for their official uniforms and clothing.

Junior dos Santos’ combat sports legacy

Junior dos Santos has gone through one of the toughest roads to a UFC championship. Santos defeated five former champions in a row to win a title shot.

‘Cigano’ knocked out Cain Velasquez in the first round to win the UFC heavyweight title on the promotion’s very first show on FOX. The Brazilian then successfully defended his title against Frank Mir at UFC 146. However, he relinquished the title to Velasquez a year later.

The Brazilian was released from the UFC earlier this year after being knocked out in his last four fights.

Santos had been one of the best heavyweight contenders in the promotion. His record includes victories against opponents such as Mark Hunt, Stipe Miocic, Derrick Lewis and Ben Rothwell.

Junior dos Santos made his professional wrestling debut for AEW Rampage earlier this Friday. It will be interesting to see if he achieves the same level of success in AEW as he did in UFC.
