NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) – Current Seattle Seahawks Safety Ugo Amadi gives back to the community who helped raise him.
The former Overton Bobcats star rounded up some of his NFL buddies to help him distribute shoes to students at Rose Park Middle School.
“Get new shoes, I don’t care how old you are. You’re going to love a new pair of shoes, ”says Amadi.
The children did.
And the group of NFL players from George Kittle, to TJ Hockenson, to Derek Barnett and Corn Elder handed out 375 pairs of new Nikes to many smiling faces.
“I saw black air forces there that were pretty nice. I would probably rock those, ”said TJ Hockenson of the Detroit Lions Tight End.
“They are very grateful. and it’s always good to give back. especially being from average Tennessee. Being here with Ugo and Derek, we all grew up here. It’s really awesome, ”adds Carolina Panthers Cornerback Corn Elder.
“You don’t know what someone’s going through in life,” said Tight End Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers. “But when you make someone smile, it makes you smile.”
It’s a great way to help end the school year.
And the gesture is something Amadi is proud of, having grown up in the area as a product of the Metro school system.
“Honestly, I didn’t think I was where I am at 17. I mean when I was 17, being able to give back to the community. But it’s still in my heart. There will be another Ugo Amadi in this school. Or another Derek Barnett. Or another George Kittle. But they need those resources and that’s where we’re here to do. ”
