Skepta and Nike have collaborated again, and just like their last project together, the duo are reinventing the Air Max Tailwind 5.
After delivering the initial blue-based iteration of the aforementioned Air Max shoe last month, the sportswear powerhouse and the London-born rapper are ditching the “Bloody Chrome” colorway of the silhouette. Additionally, the project will feature a matching Phantom shoe, making him the first musical artist to collaborate with the brand on a performance football boot.
Both styles share the red butterfly print applied to the upper of the shoes as a symbol of Skepta’s creative makeover, while chrome Swooshes and heel counter give a nod to the silver jewelry that is an integral part of the style. of the rapper. The shoes also feature iridescent material, which pays homage to the thermographic sleeve from Skepta’s 2019 album “Ignorance Is Bliss”.
“Reflecting on his own football experiences,” Skepta says. “I love the pressure when you call for the ball. When they pass it on to you, you become the sole director of the team’s next move. You have a split second to decide, ‘Is it okay for me to keep this and show what I am or is it okay to pass it and show that I think about all the players on the pitch?’ ‘
The Skepta x Nike “Bloody Chrome” collection including the Air Max Tailwind 5 and the Phantom shoe will be released at Nike.com and at select Nike retailers on June 12.
